When you need extra help and don’t know where to turn, here are a few links and numbers to help.

  • Maine Statewide Crisis Number: Call or text 988 or 1-888-568-1112. Reach out if you are concerned about yourself or somebody else. This will connect you to your nearest crisis center.

  • Call 211: A free and confidential referral service to help with financial assistance, domestic violence, addiction treatment, health care, mental health, heating and utilities assistance, family or child issues, and housing 24 hours a day. 211maine.org

  • MaineTrans.Net Community based organization led by transgender people for transgender people offering peer-to-peer support groups, social and community events, advocacy for the transgender community throughout Maine, and social service providers.

  • Trans LifeLine: Trans-led, focused and staffed crisis line that has a strict policy of never calling the police or other emergency response services on trans people in crisis: 1-877-565-8860.

  • Trever LifeLine is a crisis support service for LGBTQ+ youth 24 years old and younger. It has a text line and online chat function. Call 1-866-488-7386 or text START to 678-678.

  • OUTMaine: LGBTQ+ Youth Programs in Maine. Organization that creates more welcoming and affirming communities for LGBTQ+ youth in all of their intersectional identities. OUTMaine seeks to strengthen communities by changing the very systems that serve youth—schools, health care, foster care, and community organizations.

  • Pine Tree Legal Assistance Civil legal aid organization offering high quality free legal assistance for the immediate needs of low-income clients. They work to address the long-range barriers to justice affecting low-income people in Maine.

  • Legal Services for the elderly Helpline: 1-800-750-5353 or (207) 623-1797. Organization that provides free, high quality legal services to people who are 60 and older when their basic human needs are at stake and advocate for people facing challenges accessing Medicare benefits.  

  • Immigrant Legal Advocacy Program ILAP advances justice for Maine’s immigrants through free immigration legal services, community outreach, and advocacy. (207) 780-1593

  • Maine Parent FederationA guide to special education in Maine, a place where families can find resources and support for diagnosis, mental health, employment, health care, early and adult education for parents and caregivers of children and dependents with special needs.

  • MaineCare information: MaineCare provides free and low-cost health insurance to Mainers who meet certain requirements, based on household composition and income.There are also additional options for people with disabilities and certain health conditions, young adults who have been in foster care, and those who need long-term care services (nursing facility, residential care, etc.)
